Many leisure requirements are catered for in the village. The sports hall at the Recreation Centre hosts several indoor sports and fitness sessions. The tennis, cricket, bowls, netball and football clubs are all very active and new members are always welcome.
The Scout headquarters building is also situated at the Recreation Centre.
The Recreation Centre is a registered charity and is funded entirely by the user groups, the annual Copmanthorpe Carnival and grants from the Parish Council. It receives no funding from City of York Council. To visit the Recreation Centre website please click here.
The Recreation Centre Sports and Social Club is a separate, commercial, entity which leases its premises from the Recreation Centre.
Theatre and art groups are well supported and, with the East Coast main line close by, the area sees many visitors keen to see the rich variety of special trains that visit York and the National Railway Museum.
Proximity to York gives residents and visitors access to all the facilities of this historic city; its theatres, clubs, pubs, museums, restaurants, shops and, of course, the ancient walls that provide an excellent walking opportunity.
Walks from and around Copmanthorpe are detailed separately and give access to the lovely rural surroundings of the village
